Published in 2013 Bioshock Infinite quickly became one of our favorites and a much loved instalment into the Bioshock franchise. Almost ten years on and fanart, cosplay, publications, the works, are ongoing for this title and with our own adoration – worthy of our first review posting.

Infinite is a first-person shooter, with player wielding both a range of conventional type weapons and ‘Vigors’, supernatural powers that can be wrought against your enemies in strategic, defensive or all out offensive approaches. But, while the combat system familiar to any fans of the Bioshock franchise know and love being creative with is engaging is well executed Infinite’s story is the heart of this installment.
This becomes apparent in the early portions of the game with the tutorial and introduction to the setting of Colombia, a floating city in the sky, wrapped together into the first hour of playtime where you find yourself sightseeing more than anything too close to combat. Honestly, not being our first playthrough we found it almost too slow an introduction having already been acquainted so if you’re the trigger happy type and finding yourself looking for a righteous zealot to blow a hole in, just stay the course. It’ll happen.
In fact the switch to action happens quickly, in the span of a short scene you’ll go from enjoying the equivalent of a Sunday stroll to putting an officer’s face through a handheld grinder, for lack of a better comparison. It is this surprise change in pace and story direction scattered throughout your time in Colombia that oddly maintains the overall balanced pace of story and action.
So, is Bioshock Infinite still worth it a decade on?
We’re clearly fans of the Bioshock franchise so of course we think so. To be fair some ageing in graphics and mechanics are noticeable in the title but having done a recent replay, we can hand on heart state the action still lands and the story holds strong.
VERDICT = Worthy of GAMING IN OVERTIME
